![]() ![]() Mining pods – Support – These drone ships are basically only used to shoot down enemy missiles. Not very effective against Capital sized ships. Longbow – Bomber – This two-wing high-tech bomber unleashes Sabot missiles which are designed to overload the enemy’s shields.Khopesh – Bomber – This two-wing low-tech bomber has rocket pods that unleash a large number of unguided rockets to the battlefield.Gladius – HVY Fighter – This two-wing midline tech fighter has similar armaments as the Broadsword but has more armor.Dagger – Bomber – This three-wing high-tech bomber will each drop 1 (Atropos) fast guided torpedo that does 1/4th the damage of a Reaper missile. However, if they are escorted to their target, the Reaper missiles they carry do massive damage to ANY class ship. Cobra – Bomber – This high-tech shielded bomber comes at only one ship per wing.Won’t do any permanent hull damage, however. Claw – SUP Fighter – With 5 per wing, this shielded fighter can be used to disable enemy ships.Flares make them great escorts for bombers. ![]() Broadsword – HVY Fighter – While they are low-tech in numbers, they can be valuable in overloading a target’s shields. Those roles are interceptors, bombers, heavy, assault, and support fighters. Within this class of ships, there are five sub-classes or roles they can fill. Used correctly, fighters can easily overwhelm ships if deployed in great enough numbers. While piloting a ship that is a carrier or has a Converted Hangar Bay ship modification, you can send your fighters out to engage or return to refuel and repair. Deployed from larger ships in groups from 1 to 6 (described in-game as ‘wing’ size), these ships engage targets and swarm about them until their armaments are empty or are all destroyed. While the fighter class isn’t able to be piloted, they are definitely a powerful addition to any fleet. But updates are sparse, modding is pretty non-existent (Seriously, if you don't have the manpower to add much needed content to the game during development, you really should open this game up for modding asap, I don't understand the delay.Of those classes, the fighters are not able to be flown directly. Personally, I really like the idea of WTF, again the ship customization is pretty much the only reason I would play this over any other 2D space game. I highly recommend everyone who hasn't play it to go try it. If this was a competition, it's not at all a fair fight. Starsector is the better game right now, it has been actively updated for years, and for a alpha game it has relatively large modding scene. Forget potential, you never know how games will turn out in X years. However, Starsector is definitely better at everything else. WTF's ship customization is absolutely peerless. This game is pretty much fun shooting in space with very little in terms of consequences right now. With regards to simulation of galaxy and factions it is extremely barebones at the moment nothing to compare with Starsector. That being said there are premade default designs that you can use instantly and eventually modify slightly to suit your needs better. You can put smaller reactors close to every system you need and thus have multiple redundancies however risk major explosions whenever one of those gets destroyed or you can make a giant well protected reactor and put powerlines along safer routes which takes that valuable space from other components. This can be prevented as there is power management to take into consideration when designing. Then when enemy shot damages your powerline to your weapons then until yo or your crew/drones repair it you can say goodbye to your weapons. You pretty much take a hull shape and then put in all the components and design the ship yourself. You can customize your ships to a much greater extent. Although you don't have much in the way of fleet in terms of flying a single ship in combat it feels more in-depth. Personally I find combat better here than in Starsector. ![]()
